About this deal

You do need as PigletJohn says to consider window reveals/eaves etc otherwise you end up with fat walls that don't work where there is a detail. Apply a good amount of adhesive working away from the corner to the wall enough to hang 1 strip at a time of thermal liner (apply approx.1m wide - KV600 1.3m Wide), This is so there is enough to cover the edges at both sides using a medium pile roller and a brush for the top, bottom and corners.

This product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes inside your home unless the surface is further treated with a fire retardant covering. This product is class E fire rated and should not be used for projects such as new builds and extensions where Building regulations are applicable. This product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes inside your home unless the surface is further treated with a fire retardant covering. Follow the instructions and apply the liner directly to a surface pre-coated with Thermal Liner Adhesive. Allow at least 24 hours for drying, longer if conditions are especially humid or cold. Wherever possible we also recommend that the thermal liner is allowed to dry out naturally and therefore the heating is turned off whilst the adhesive dries out. However if temperatures are likely to drop below 10°c/50°F it is advisable that low level heating is used to ensure that the adhesive can cure effectively. Do not go around external corners just cut into them as they will not be straight. What happens is the next wall the Thermal Liner will not be straight and this will cause problems when butt joining the product. You can apply over a paper product e.g. lining paper, woodchip embossed papers. Do not apply over vinyl or blown vinyl wallpaper, as this will reduce the breathability of the thermal liner. Again lightly sand then PVA bond the wallpaper. Your husbands concerns about cavity wall insulation have a valid basis. It can in some cases cause serious problems with penetrating damp, condensation and corrosion of wall ties. This product is suitable as a localised ‘problem solver’ for cold external walls and is not recommended for use in fire escape routes inside your home unless the surface is further treated with a fire retardant covering. This product is class Efire rated andshould not be used for projects such as new builds and extensions where Building regulations are applicable. Use only paste-the-wall wallcoverings if you are planning to overhang the KV600 with another liner**. If you do not intend to cover the product with fibreliner or similar then any small gaps at seams and corners can be filled and sanded prior to painting the surface directly with standard emulsion paint. Use a good quality, flexible non shrinking filler.

I applied the System Adhesive to walls using a medium pile roller, using a brush around skirting and ceiling where the roller wouldn't “reach”, making sure there was plenty of adhesive on the wall where I used the brush – i.e. I didn't brush it out. A. Yes you will do, especially when the heating is first turned on as room warm up time is reduced dramatically and the air currents that make you feel cold whilst a room warms up are also reduced. This is of course in addition to all the other benefits such as a reduction in noise entering through the treated wall. Great surface for paint or paste-the-wall wallpapers (read more below if you'd like to use paste the paper wallpapers) This is an important consideration, as it means that the thermal liner won't trap moisture in the walls, and prevents the fear of potential damp and mold problems.

Cut lengths to size allowing some extra for trimming at the top and bottom this will make it easier when trying to apply directly to the wall. Mark the wall away from the corner approx. 70cm (thermal Liner) 95cm (KV600) and draw a plumb line (straight) to start from. Thermal liner is classified as „E “according to DIN EN 13501-1 in relation to its reaction to fire behaviour, which corresponds to „B2“(normally inflammable) according to the standard DIN 4102-1 Thermal liner is basically a thin material that is used to help maintain heat in a room. It is made from wood fibres interwoven with durable textile fibres. This gives you is a very strong, flexible material that when attached to the walls is said to increase the energy efficiency of the room in question. Does Thermal Liner increase the energy efficiency of walls? Only paste the wall enough for 1 strip at a time leaving it wider to make sure the edges are covered and to reduce the amount on adhesive that will be applied for the next strip on the edges.

A. The roll are extra wide so each roll will cover 7.5 m2 or 121 ft2. Please use the link below to calculate the square meterage you may require, you will need to select Klimatec Thermovlies on the scroll menu. http://www.erfurt.com/cms/en/advisor/advisormain/calculation.html It looks like the stuff I replaced for someone recently. It didn't provide any noticeable difference to the room at all. Apparently it was quite expensive when you they had to buy the special adhesive and then the insulated layer product. The one I removed also had to be filled where the joints but up and didn't look good where it met the window reveal. My old country house has solid stone walls and boy do they feel cold inside. Not being able to have the cavity insulated -'cos there ain't no cavity - for years I've been seeking a solution to this. A.Thermal liner is classified as "E" according to DIN EN 13501-1 in relation to its reaction to fire behavior, which corresponds to "B2"(normally inflammable) according to the standard DIN 4102-1 Lambda, this measures the efficiency of an actualmaterial. So, the more efficient the material the less you need of it to feel warm and cosy. the units used are Watts/Metre xKelvin.Walls, which have a surface temperature that is distinctly cooler than the ambient temperature, are an ideal breeding ground for mould. This is why the problem is often seen on outside walls and close to windows. The warm and moist room air condenses on the cooler areas of the walls and creates condensation. The moist walls then form a perfect breeding ground for mould to grow. To further increase the fire protection, we have devised a system to achieve a Class 1 rating - see the performance report here As a final tip – if you are going round the corners of rooms with the thermal liner, I suggest cutting it as per the diagram below. We'd not recommend putting ceramic tiles over the thermal liner. If you want to hang ceramic tiles over the thermal liner, please use the Professional Insulation Panels instead.

If you're lining a new wall, then you can apply the thermal liner directly to the plasterboard. However, if you're lining an existing wall, then you'll need to apply a primer first. This will ensure that the thermal liner adheres correctly and doesn't come away from the wall. Alternatively, wallpaper can be applied directly to the surface. We strongly recommend a ‘Paste-The-Wall’ type of wallpaper. For each roll you’ll need between 7.5 and 10 kgs of the adhesive depending on how absorbent the surface is

Installing the Thermal Liner

I've personally not used it as a retrofit solution(only new build) so I can't give an idea of costs (and I would be wary of a cost per m2 as it will vary hugely depending on the complexity of the job), I have however seen it used successfully and attractively by others so it may well be a possible and practical solution. If you are applying thermal liner & KV600 over plaster base, lightly sand then PVA bond 2 times to seal the wall.If you are applying over painted plaster, lightly sand then PVA bond to seal the wall. A. Two main reasons, 1) It makes it much easier to achieve a nice neat finish with minimal filling and sanding 2) It helps protect your investment from damage creating a good base for paint or decorative wallpaper at the same time. Q. I remember those old polystyrene insulation tiles that were a real fire hazard, so I have worries in this regard about Thermal Liner? Fire safety: is “normally” inflammable (according to the standard DIN 4102-1 “B2” classification, which corresponds to “E“ classification with DIN EN 13501-1)
